💬 Chat Guide
Chatting is the heart of Kuro AI. Every character has their own personality, voice, and way of responding. They can hold conversations, roleplay, react to your messages — and even send you photos.
Starting a Chat
- Go to the Tavern and browse characters
- Tap any character to open their profile
- Click "Chat" to start a conversation
- Type your message and hit send — the character will respond in their unique style
Each character remembers your conversation history, so you can pick up where you left off.
Requesting Photos
The most powerful feature of Kuro AI chat is photo generation. Characters can send you AI-generated images based on what you describe.
How to Ask
Simply include a photo request in your message. Some examples:
- "Can you send me a picture, standing, smile, outdoors, sunny day"
- "Send me a photo in a red dress, sitting, couch, soft lighting"
- "Take a selfie at the beach, bikini, happy, sunset"
The key is to start with a request phrase ("send me a picture", "take a photo", etc.) followed by descriptive keywords separated by commas.
For a deep dive into writing great prompts, check the Image Prompt Guide.
Photo Modes
Kuro AI has two photo generation modes that work behind the scenes:
Smart Mode (Agentic)
The character thinks about your request and picks the best outfit, pose, and setting from their wardrobe. If you ask for "a bunny outfit photo", the character will search their available wardrobe, find the closest match, and use it.
This mode is great for natural, immersive conversations where the character feels like they're choosing what to wear.
Classic Mode
The photo is generated directly from the keywords you provide, without the character "thinking" about it. More literal and predictable — what you type is what you get.
You can switch between modes in the Chat Settings.
Surprise Photos
Want the character to surprise you? Use the Surprise button (dice icon) in the chat actions menu. The character will decide on their own what kind of photo to send — outfit, pose, setting, everything. It's a fun way to discover unexpected results.
Group Chats
Chat with multiple characters at once in group conversations.
Creating a Group
- Open a chat with any character
- Tap the "Add Character" button in the header
- Select another character to add
- Choose "Continue conversation" (stays in current chat) or "Start fresh" (new group chat)
How Group Responses Work
When you send a message in a group chat, characters respond one by one in sequence. Each character sees what the others said before them, which creates natural conversations with banter and reactions between characters.
@Mentions
Want only a specific character to respond? Use @TheirName in your message. Only the mentioned character will reply — the others stay quiet.
Gifting in Groups
When you send a gift in a group chat, you can choose to send it to one character or everyone. Sending to everyone multiplies the cost but each character reacts individually.
Chat Settings
Tap the settings icon in the chat header to customize your experience:
Response Length
Control how long the character's text responses are:
- Short — quick, snappy replies
- Medium — balanced responses (default)
- Long — detailed, elaborate replies
Photo Mode
Switch between Smart Mode (agentic) and Classic Mode for photo generation.
Aspect Ratio
Choose the shape of generated photos:
- Portrait — tall images (default, best for character shots)
- Landscape — wide images (best for scenes and backgrounds)
- Square — 1:1 images
Upscale
Toggle upscale to generate higher-resolution images. This costs a small extra amount of Krystals but produces noticeably sharper results.
Wardrobe in Chat
You can dress characters in different outfits and poses during your conversation.
- Open the "+" menu in the chat input area
- Select "Wardrobe"
- Browse available outfits, poses, backgrounds, and styles
- Select an item — it stays active for all photos until you change it
When a wardrobe item is active, all photo requests will use that outfit/pose. You can clear the selection to go back to the character's default look.
Learn more in the Wardrobe Guide.
Duo Poses
Generate photos with two characters together in the same image.
- Open the "+" menu → "Wardrobe"
- Select a Duo Pose item
- Choose the second character to appear alongside
- Request a photo — both characters will appear in the image
Duo poses automatically adjust the image to landscape orientation to fit both characters. The AI blends both characters' visual styles into a single scene.
Persona
Customize how the character sees you in the conversation.
- Open the "+" menu → "Persona"
- Write a description of yourself (name, appearance, personality, etc.)
- Save — the character will incorporate this into their responses
Your persona affects how the character addresses you, reacts to your messages, and describes you in roleplay scenarios. It's optional but adds a lot of immersion.
Memories
Characters build memories of your conversations over time. These help the character remember important details about your interactions — things you've told them, experiences you've shared, preferences you've expressed.
You can view and manage memories from the Memory Panel in the chat menu. Delete memories you don't want the character to remember, or let them accumulate naturally.
Moments
Moments let you save your favorite messages and photos from conversations. Think of them as bookmarks for your best interactions.
- Double-tap any message or photo to save it as a Moment
- Access your saved Moments from the chat menu
- Moments are private — only you can see them
Moments unlock at Bond Level 5 with a character.
Photo Schedules
Set up automatic photo deliveries from your favorite characters.
- Open the chat menu → "Photo Schedule"
- Choose wardrobe items for the character to use
- Set the frequency (1–5 photos per day)
- Save — the character will send you photos automatically at set intervals
It's like having the character think of you throughout the day and send selfies on their own.

The "+" button in the chat input reveals all available actions:

Tips for Better Chats
- Be descriptive in photo requests — more keywords = more control over the result
- Use wardrobe items — they produce much more consistent and polished photos than raw prompts
- Try Smart Mode — let the character pick their outfit for more natural interactions
- Set a persona — it makes conversations feel much more personal
- Use @mentions in groups — control who responds to keep conversations focused
- Check your bond level — higher bond unlocks Moments, special stories, and more
